Alan Green’s Penalty Area
It’s long been an ambition of mine to record one of the many football (soccer) matches on BBC Radio 5Live, for reasons that will become apparent.
I love Radio 5Live. I love that there’s (generally) intelligent converstations and reporting, instead of shitty chart music, which I’m fairly sure I could better with an afternoon spent on GarageBand and a 4 litre bottle of Frosty Jacks. (I’m not going to try it though. Mainly for fear of spilling the aforementioned beverage on my computerbox)
I love that 5Live covers virtually everything, from lawn bowling to tramampolining.
I love that it’s not just sport either. It’s news and debate and everything that goes with it.
What I don’t love is Alan Green. Well, that’s harsh. I don’t hate him, but what I can’t stand is that:
a) he pronounces ‘Penalty Area’ as ‘Pneltyair’,
and,
b) he does it approximately 6000* times a match.
I know it’s a small thing, but thank God they rotate the commentary.
